ABOUT THE RECORD
The Bay City Rollers' Greatest Hits album peaked at #10 on Billboard Japan and #77 on U.S. Billboard 200 and featured two hit singles: The Way I Feel Tonight (#24 Hot 100) and Saturday Night (#1 Hot 100). The Bay City Rollers were a Scottish pop band whose popularity was highest in the 1970s. The British Hit Singles & Albums noted that they were "tartan teen sensations from Edinburgh", and were "the first of many acts heralded as the 'Biggest Group since The Beatles' and one of the most screamed-at teeny-bopper acts of the 1970s". For a relatively brief but fervent period (nicknamed "Rollermania"), they were worldwide teen idols. The group's line-up featured numerous changes over the years, but the classic line-up during its heyday included guitarists Eric Faulkner and Stuart Wood, singer Les McKeown, bassist Alan Longmuir, and drummer Derek Longmuir. According to a review on allmusic.com, "the Bay City Rollers never got their fair shake as a "legitimate" band, and this {Greatest Hits} ten-track, no-frills collection proves it. It collects only their biggest, most overexposed hits, but when removed from the hype, the Rollers' music has an enduring innocence and charm with enough catchy hooks and pure pop melodies to compete with other power-pop bands of the era."
